Pay What You Can Afford
GCSE English Language
Online English tuition for home-educated pupils
Quality GCSE English teaching should be accessible to every young person.
My Pay What You Can Afford GCSE online English Language sessions are designed specifically for home-educated pupils who want structured, supportive teaching without the cost of traditional one-to-one tuition.
Rather than charging a fixed fee, families simply pay what they can genuinely afford for each session.
There is no difference in the teaching you receive depending on how much you pay. Every pupil joins the same lesson, receives the same resources and benefits from the same high-quality teaching and support.
What will we cover?
The programme follows AQA GCSE English Language and is designed to build the knowledge, skills and confidence pupils need for both examination papers.
We will work through:
-
Reading and analysing fiction
-
Creative writing
-
Reading and comparing non-fiction
-
Writers' viewpoints and perspectives
-
Transactional and persuasive writing
-
Understanding GCSE questions and assessment objectives
-
Planning effective answers
-
Developing vocabulary and written accuracy
-
Exam technique and timing
-
Practice questions and exam-style tasks
Teaching is broken down into manageable steps, so pupils can develop their skills gradually rather than simply being expected to complete GCSE papers before they are ready.
How does it work?
Sessions take place online every Tuesday from 11.00am–12.00pm.
The course is taught in blocks, allowing pupils to focus on particular elements of the GCSE before bringing those skills together through practice and consolidation.

What does “Pay What You Can Afford” mean?
Exactly that.
There is no set lesson fee.
I know that home education can involve considerable expense and that regular private tuition isn't financially realistic for every family. I don't believe that should prevent a young person from accessing specialist GCSE English teaching.
You choose an amount that is manageable for your family.
If your circumstances mean you can pay more, your contribution helps make it possible for me to continue offering the programme at an accessible rate. If you can only afford a small amount, that's okay too.
There is no judgement, no need to justify your choice and no difference in the teaching your child receives.
Who teaches the sessions?
I'm Cathy Robinson, founder of Flourish Futures UK.
I have around 20 years' experience in secondary education, including five years as a Head of English and ten years in senior leadership.
I am also an experienced GCSE English examiner and now specialise in supporting young people through private tuition and small-group teaching.
My approach is supportive, straightforward and practical. I want pupils to understand what the examiner is looking for, how to approach each question and how to improve their own work.
Who are the sessions suitable for?
These sessions may be particularly useful for:
-
Home-educated pupils working towards AQA GCSE English Language
-
Pupils who benefit from structured weekly teaching
-
Young people who find large classroom environments difficult
-
Pupils who need GCSE skills broken down into smaller, manageable steps
-
Families looking for affordable access to specialist English teaching
-
Pupils preparing to sit GCSE English Language as private candidates
Pupils do not need to be working at a particular grade to join. The aim is to help each young person develop from their own starting point.
A supportive approach to GCSE English
GCSE preparation doesn't need to mean endless worksheets, full exam papers and pressure.
My aim is to help pupils understand the course, practise the skills they actually need and gradually become more independent and confident.
Accessible teaching. No judgement. No financial barrier. Just high-quality GCSE English support.
