About

Me image.jpeg

My name is Cathy Robinson, founder of Flourish Futures UK—a qualified English teacher, tutor, and GCSE examiner with over 20 years of experience in education. Throughout my career, I’ve held a range of leadership roles, including Head of English and a Senior Leader for over a decade, with responsibilities as both Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and SEN Lead. This means I bring not only subject expertise, but a deep understanding of how to support students as individuals—academically, emotionally, and holistically. Alongside my teaching, I have over five years’ experience as a GCSE examiner, giving me a clear insight into what exam boards are really looking for and how students can achieve their best possible outcomes. I work with students who need clear explanations, confidence-building, and practical exam guidance. My sessions are calm, supportive, and carefully tailored—particularly for those with SEND needs or exam anxiety. I focus on what genuinely makes a difference: building skills, developing vocabulary, and mastering exam technique. Whether your child needs targeted GCSE support, help building confidence, or structured guidance to improve their writing and reading skills, my aim is simple: to help them flourish. If you’re looking for experienced, reassuring support for your child, I’d be happy to help.

Testimonials

Cathy is an outstanding English tutor who has had a truly transformative impact on my daughter’s learning and confidence.

Since working with her, my daughter’s GCSE English grade has improved by at least two grades, which is an incredible achievement. Beyond the academic progress, Cathy has built a genuine and authentic rapport with her. She has nurtured a real love of English in my daughter, something we hadn’t seen before, and has helped her grow in confidence both in her abilities and in her approach to learning.

My daughter has even said that if she had been taught by Cathy at school, she would have chosen to continue English at A Level – a testament to how inspiring and engaging her teaching is.

We have been so impressed that we also asked Cathy to support our Year 8 son, who is typically very reluctant to engage with English. Remarkably, he now genuinely looks forward to his sessions with her and is beginning to show real enthusiasm for the subject.

Every lesson is carefully planned and tailored to meet the individual needs of the child, ensuring that progress is both targeted and meaningful.

We feel extremely fortunate to have found Cathy – she is a rare and exceptional tutor who combines expertise, warmth, and the ability to truly inspire.

Cannot recommend Cathy enough her services and very professional and to a very high standard, my 11 year old son has really enjoyed working with her in English. cannot recommend her enough she's brilliant!

Meena Kumari

I can't recommend Cathy highly enough. My son had been struggling to keep up with what was being taught in class, and it really started to affect his confidence. Since working with Cathy, we've seen such a positive change in him, not just academically, but in how he feels about himself.

Her tailored one-to-one support has made a huge difference. She took the time to understand exactly where he needed help and adapted her approach to suit him, which has helped everything finally click into place.

Now, as he approaches his GCSEs, he feels much more confidence and prepared, and as a family, we genuinely believe he's going to absolutely smash it.

Thank you Cathy for all your support. We're so grateful. I would 100% recommend her to anyone looking for a tutor who truly makes a difference.

Insights & Advice for English Success

When is the right time to get an English tutor?

In my experience as both a classroom teacher and tutor, the best time is usually before a student starts struggling badly.

Dealing with Exam Stress

One of the biggest mistakes I see students make is believing they should revise constantly. Endless hours at a desk usually lead to burnout, not success. Brains need breaks.

Why Reading Is One of the Best Ways to Improve Vocabulary

Vocabulary is not usually improved through memorising long word lists. It is improved through exposure to language — and reading is one of the most powerful ways to do that.
